Run of the Mill 5k- 10:23 am

The Run of the Mill 5k takes place on Saturday June 30th at 9:00 pm in the Mill Creek Town Center.  It is the longest standing annual event in Mill Creek. Since 2006, the race has been a fundraising event to benefit those fighting cancer. The ROTM is a very fun event – not only because the race itself has become a very respected and competitive 5k, but also because before and after the race, the event is a fun, community event with booths, prize give-aways, music, cash awards and great community spirit.

The Run of the Mill raises money for Providence Hospital’s Linda Baltzell Cancer Patients assistance fund which provides for basic life needs expenses for cancer patients. A secondary focus is providing financial support underfunded non cut high school track and cross country and swim programs.

Family Jewels 5k in memory of Jaimeson Jones- 12:04 pm

The Family Jewels 5K is an annual trail run or walk in memory of  Bothell XC runner Jaimeson Jones.  It is held every year at Saint Edward State Park in Kenmore, WA, which was Jaimeson’s favorite place to run.  AND, this year, March 19 is a FREE DAY in Washington State parks.  That means you won’t need a Discover Pass to run the 2016 Family Jewels 5K!!!  (Feel free to drop that ten-spot into a donation jar if you like.)

As always, the Family Jewels 5K is a fun, family-friendly run, walk or stroll where we do some educating toward our goal of saving young men’s lives and then let it loose when the start gun goes off!  And, if you haven’t heard, there will be PIE.  Lots and lots of PIE.  :)  Plus more food, hot drinks, and some other surprising features. JOIN US!

Here’s why we do what we do.

Jaimeson Jones died on October 7, 2010 at age 20 of testicular cancer.  Testicular cancer is the #1 cancer of men between 15 and 35, and it is 95% curable IF it is caught early.  Because he did not realize that his symptoms indicated cancer, Jaimeson did not alert his family to his pain and swelling for over a year, and his cancer was diagnosed late – at Stage IV.

Caring for a child with cancer devastates a family not only emotionally but financially.  In our case, Jaimeson was aware that one of the many financial consequences was insufficient funds to pay for his younger sisters to attend college.  So, our generous boy bequeathed his own college savings to them.  And our first mission was born.

Our missions are:

  • Saving young men’s lives by educating about testicular cancer, and
  • Providing scholarships to students whose sibling had cancer.

The Jaimeson Jones Memorial Scholarship is a registered 501(c)(3) with TIN 80-0905365.

4 Minute Mile movie- 7:09 pm

4 minute mileIn August of 2012 Run 26 owner Shelby was lucky enough to work as a “Running Consultant” on a movie called 4 Minute Mile which was filmed in Seattle. All the running extras are local high school and college runners. It is now available to watch on Netflix and OnDemand. We’ve seen it a few times and it’s a pretty dang good movie. Shelby just did an interview with Runner’s World about working as a consultant which should be in the next issue. You can visit the 4 Minute Mile website here and watch the trailer as well.
